They were created by a small group of reborn artists and collectors who were looking to create a community-driven environment for reborn lovers to come together. The fact is that collecting reborn dolls is a growing hobby that has continued to rise in popularity in recent years. Not only are there millions of collectors in the U.S. and U.K., but the craze has spread into other countries as well. Now, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and even parts of Asia have jumped on board.
Even with this newfound popularity, trying to find reborn dolls for sale can be a challenge. Some people may be thrown off with the reborning process, as it's certainly time-consuming and downright difficult at times. However, the people are the Reborn Doll Shop explain it in a way that nearly anyone can understand, regardless of your past experience.
Instead of spending 40+ hours piecing together a new reborn, the people over at the Reborn Doll Shop recommend using a kit your first time around. These kits contain paint, hair, limbs and everything else you need to make a reborn. The only extra thing that's required to use them is a traditional toy vinyl doll, which can be purchased from any toy or doll store for as little as $10 bucks. While these kits aren't going to give you the same high-quality level of detail and realism as a handmade reborn, they are still a fun and effective way to create your very first reborn, so give them a try today.

ARTICLE - 'A DEMON DOLL IN A BLACK CRIB WAS ALWAYS MY FANTASY' THE WOMAN WITH 500 LIFE-LIKE HORROR DOLLS THAT SHE TREATS LIKE REAL BABIES

'A demon toddler in a black crib was always my fantasy': The woman with 500 life-like horror dolls that she treats like real babies

By Olivia Fleming

An eccentric doll collector with 500 life-like plastic babies, who she looks after as if they were living; changing their clothes, washing their hair and taking them to the park, has unveiled a sinister side to her collection.
Showing off the blood stained horror toys in her Staten Island apartment, 33-year-old Marilyn Mansfield says she is happiest among her collection of Krypt Kiddies and Living Dead Dolls.
The married mother of three never leaves the house without one of her dolls, which are so sought after by collectors they are valued up to $2,500 each -  an overall collection worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Mrs Mansfield said she first fell in love with the idea of horror dolls by watching the infamous 1980's Hollywood slasher movie, Chucky, starring a homicidal doll of the same name.

'I have always loved Chucky dolls,' admited Marilyn. 'To have a demon baby in a black crib, that was always my fantasy.'
Mrs Mansfeild is so devoted to her dolls that she has turned her hobby into a business, and now creates her own horror dolls, selling them to customers for up to $300.

The doll collector is also obsessed with dolls designed to be as close to real babies as possibly - called 'reborners'.

She also creates 'portrait babies' which are crafted to look like her customer's children.
'I would say a lot more work goes into making a doll look life-like and real than goes into making a scary-looking doll,' she said.
'I find it more challenging to make them look realistic.'
Mrs Mansfield said she has mixed reactions when she takes the dolls out in public and often elicits shocks from strangers who come to coo at one of her 'babies'.

'I take them out with me and my family in a car seat and in a stroller. I don't do it for attention, it just makes me feel very content, and if someone thinks the doll is real or asks me questions, I'm always sure to tell them it's only a doll.
'One woman who saw one of the dolls in a store recently said: "Your baby looks a little pale. Is he OK?" She touched him and screamed when she found out it was a doll.'
Mrs Mansfield, who has featured on the TLC show My Collection Obsession, said that her children are not jealous of the playthings.
Her seven-year-old son has his own doll collection and her 12-year-old daughter helps her mother change and wash the dolls.

She said that her husband has no interest in the dolls, but has grown used to their large 'family'.
'Holding these dolls is so calming and relaxing - the experience is very absorbing,' she said.
'When your own kids are babies, it's a special time. Having a reborn doll is like having that all of the time.'

NEWS - REAL LIFE CHUCKY DOLL IN HOUSTON? MOM SWEARS ELECTRONIC PLAY-TIME DOLL IS CURSING AT HER

A real-life Chucky doll in Houston? Mom swears electronic play-time doll is cursing at her

By Tyler Rudick

As if talking dolls weren't creepy enough already . . . After buying her 2-year-old daughter a set of You and Me Interactive Triplet Dolls from Toys "R" Us, Houston area mom Rose Pickens soon discovered that one of the little plastic girls had a little more to say than the usual goo-goo-gaga.
"She is a potty mouth," Pickens told KHOU reporter Brad Woodward. "She actually says the ‘B’ word. I just never paid attention to what the dolls say. They say mama and dada, and this particular day she said, You crazy b****."

According to the Toys "R: Us website, the You and Me babies are "play time dolls that reflect the personality of every young girl." The sturdy 12-inch dolls are apparently programmed to "laugh and play, just like real babies."
"The dolls are basically supposed to interact . . . They play and coo together," explained Pickens. Well, it turns out that some children start speaking earlier than others — you know, "just like real babies."
Toys "R" Us, which has exclusive distribution rights for the talking triplets, is brushing off the allegations and keeping the dolls in stores despite a stream of complaints that started last fall.
“Please be assured that we would not carry a doll that uttered profanity of any kind," Katie Reczek, a spokesperson for national retailer, told KHOU. "We are aware that some customers believe they are hearing something else spoken by one of the dolls in the set, when, in fact, the doll is uttering baby babble.”
In a report from KPRC Pickens said she was surprised by the retailer's lack of concern when she called the store.
"I actually expected them to be shocked. The manager acknowledged that he had heard that this doll does curse and that they had no plans of removing them from the shelves."

You & Me Interactive Play & Giggle Triplet Dolls are available at all Toys 'R' Us stores for $39.99. Stroller and batteries not included.

He said they were now searching to track the owner of the valuable doll and to work out how it ended up on a park bench.

what bothers me most about this. is the fact that someone just tossed that doll away, thats art.
i wonder who the artist is for this doll. MICHELLE

SILICONE BABIES

as im looking around on the web recently, i came across a video on youtube of an artist who has made some silicone dolls..

FULL silicone bodies!
that intriqued me! and i have been hooked ever since...
i want one..but man! are they expensive.

i suspect thats because 1)- they arnt cheap to make with the silicone.
2)- they arnt that high in demand
3)-its still pretty much an undiscovered doll
4)- most reborners dont work with silicone
5)-i have heard they are quite different to paint.

i specualte, of course, not really knowing anything except the videos and images i have seen..

i adore the fact they 'flop' like a real baby. the head 'bobs' to and fro, like a newborns would. and they are said to feel incredibly like a real newborn because of the special silicone they are made with.

i have been on a few pages on FaceBook and have seen people talking about them..
and today, one of the ladies who was 'schooling me' on the manufaturing of these dolls, sent me a private message telling me that CLAIR TAYLOR has 1 Stephanie doll available and all it needed was to be rooted...

ARTICLE - GOOD GOLLY ITS A DOLLY

 Good golly it's a dolly

Andrew Gibson • Published 5 Oct 2011

HEADS have been turning at a children's clothes shop recently as Lolly the baby confuses visitors.
The incredibly life-like "reborn doll", in Lollipop on Kilbowie Road, has been baffling shoppers as they try and work out if it is a real baby.
Creator Shirley Cameron, of Old Kilpatrick, has now made 10 of the specialist dolls as part of a time-consuming hobby which started as a way to please her granddaughter.
Reborn dolls are created by enthusiasts who order parts online and spend meticulous sessions painting veins, rooting mohair, inserting beating fake hearts and even making them sound like they are breathing.
The dolls have featured in the news often in the UK as police have smashed in parked car windows believing the reborn dolls inside to be real babies.
Shirley, 55, says she does not go to the same lengths as others in creating her dolls as it is more of a fun hobby than an obsession.
However after creating 10 of the expensively assembled toys she has now perfected a craft which stuns those who hold the end product.
She said: "It's only a hobby - I've made a few for friends and family.
"Lolly was given to Pamela for the shop so she could dress it up and help advertise the clothes.
"They are more collector's items, they're not for young children.
"It's amazing the comments you get - teenagers were going by the shop and looking at it thinking it was real.
"You see the reaction when they come into the shop, some people hold them and other people don't like them. They say they can't look at them - they feel it's a bit too real but not real.
"It's not taken seriously, it's just a bit of fun."
